Artist Message
Selina Alko is a children's book and editorial illustrator living in Brooklyn, NY. She has been making art for books and magazines since her graduation from SVA in 1991. Her jazzy, multi-culti images can be found in such NY classics as MY SUBWAY RIDE and MY TAXI RIDE. This month, Selina Alko debuts as author/illustrator with I'M YOUR PEANUT BUTTER BIG BROTHER (Knopf, $17, ages 4- 7) Booklist has this to say about Peanut Butter: it is a "refreshingly nondidactic story about prenatal anticipation in an interracial home, and it will make a good choice for sharing one-on-one or reading aloud to a group, whose members may want to come up with their own food metaphors for their families.” The book is also wonderfully reviewed in TimeOut NY Kids this month. |
