"everything is ok"
Description: The communicative objective of this piece is to make people think. Its secondary purpose is to direct viewers to the web site, which sustains the project. Everything is OK can be seen as either an affirmative phrase or a condemning indictment of mediocrity. This agitprop campaign explores the tension between these conflicting interpretations by recontextualizing this innocuous phrase within a familiar and antithetic medium (the yellow caution tape). Everything is OK is a public design experiment that creates additional layers of meaning once it is deployed: it becomes an interactive caption that modifies spaces, events, objects and traffic. The tape is distributed to participants via the web site (www.everythingisok.com). Interested participants may request the tape online and receive an 'action kit' through the mail. The participants make use of the tape as they wish, deploying it in public spaces as a form of guerilla design or advertising. Artist: Christopher Simmons, Tim Belonax |
