Artist Message
Laura Smith grew up literally on the beaches of Southern California—but that is not what moved her to paint. She was first introduced to the world of art through her best friend in the first grade. Her friend's father, a painter, took over their home with his amazing paintings. There was barely space to move through the house. At one point in his life he had followed the Ringling Brothers Circus...by day he painted the troupe, by night he performed on a trampoline dressed as a clown. A graduate of Art Center College of Design, Laura moved to New York, and years later she moved back to Southern California. She has yet to join the circus, but tries to channel the spirit and whimsy that it evokes. She's worked with a wide array of national and international clients including Mercedes Benz, Ferrari, The New York Knicks, The Kentucky Derby, and Time Magazine, to name just a few. She's an award winner at the Society of Illustrators, The Art Directors Club and will appear in the Illustration Annual 52—the May/June 2011 issue of Communication Arts. She's also a winner of the 2010 Altpick Awards in the Design Category. |
