Artist Message
Leela Corman is an illustrator, cartoonist, bellydancer, and painter in New York City. She is the illustrator of You Grow Girl!, a guerilla gardening guide published by Simon & Schuster and written by the superfantastico Gayla Trail, and has illustrated books on subjects from sex for the very busy to the history of skirts. She has illustrated for Sasquatch Books, Family Circle, American Baby Magazine, PBS Online, Shape Magazine, The New York Times, YM, Bridal Guide, BUST Magazine, The Boston Phoenix, and many other illustrious publications. Her most recent graphic novel is the critically-acclaimed Unterzakhn, published in April 2012 by Schocken-Pantheon. Her past graphic novels include the 1999 Xeric Grant winner "Queen's Day", and the teen angst tale "Subway Series", published by Alternative Comics in 2002. Her comics have also appeared in HEEB Magazine, Quadrado, Scheherazade, and PULSE! Magazine, and have been translated into French and Portuguese. She has danced with many Middle Eastern dance ensembles, and teaches and performs all over New York City. |
