Think of the most intriguing places in the world that you would love to visit. Now just imagine being sent there to photograph, draw and/ or write a story. This opportunity was lived by altpick.com member, and Morgan Gaynin Inc. illustrator, Karen Blessen. She was invited to be a part of the HIV/AID Advisory Committee for the international relief organization, Save The Children. She traveled to Malawi and Mozambique, where she had the opportunity to photograph and interview women suffering from AIDs.
Subsequently, she did six pieces of art and a feature story for the Dallas Morning News, entitled "AIDS in Africa: Faces of a Plague. An artist Travels to the Heart of a Deadly Epidemic". Blessen's art work was featured in the June 23rd issue of the newspaper, on pages 1F, 8F-9F and 14F.
The story was told, with the art and writing of an artist, in a way that others could not.
WELL DONE KAREN BLESSEN
