Red Nose Studio Reminds Us Of the Importance Of Growing

Jul 06, 2015

Illustrator (/puppeteer) Chris Sickels and his company Red Nose Studio have provided the world with incredible imagery since the year 2000. His 2-D and 3-D illustrations in the form of puppets and miniature environments have been on the covers of magazines and advertisements, as well as in lo-fi stop motion animations for years. But although Chris has been in the business a long time – and has been rewarded for doing so – he humbly admits that he, like every artist, need to keep learning and improve his craft to meet his full potential.

Chris recently posted a few concept-sketches that he had made for the cover department at The New Yorker on his blog. Stating that nothing came of it in the end, Chris also took the time to reflect on what needs to be done and the lesson he learned from it: “I know my work needs to work on being a bit more sophisticated, and I have been at this for 20 years this year. So to any kids out there, take note, it takes time and constant growing. I’ll get there eventually.”

As Chris decided to keep developing his craft, he eventually ended up making his favorite sketch into a finish. The result can be found below.
