I'm a native New Yorker now living in Minneapolis.
My career started on the other side of the camera. First, as a child model, then as a fashion model with Ford Models in the '70s. I was fortunate to work with talented artists such as Guy Bourdin, Helmut Newton, Cecil Beaton, Sarah Moon, David Baily and Deborah Turberville.
People are my favorite subjects, particularly children. They fascinate me. I'm interested in their objects, grooming, play and rituals. Their emotional lives are undiluted and true.
I shoot portraits on location, bringing the surrounding environment and objects into my work. Almost paradoxically, I find that context allows me more direct access to a person's inner life, to a more honest portrayal of his or her truth, quirks and beauty.
