Chris Sanders is a New York City-based commercial photographer. He’s been in business for over ten years and has been carrying a camera since the a...ge of twelve. Specializing in creating lifestyle photographs with a cinematic look, Chris directs his subjects to achieve an authentic emotional situation.

Graduating from Boston University with a degree in film, Chris chose to pursue his passion in photography because the process was more intimate and personal compared to film. “When I have an idea, I can quickly execute it. During a shooting I like to quickly move around and try other angles and ideas, “he says.

Whether Chris is working with models or real people, he wants the photographs to look realistic. He is involved in every aspect of a production from the casting to the location scout to the wardrobe. In describing his approach, “Every detail of a photograph has to be considered even if it is for a realistic set-up.” With portraiture, Chris likes to know something about the subject, so that he can better communicate with both them and, ultimately, the viewer.

Chris’ travel work captures a very specific sense of a particular geographical location. He pays acute attention to the intrinsic details that define “place” through its people, food, landscape and architectural details.

Besides the many clients that have chosen him to shoot for their flagship accounts, Sanders has shot from many of the leading magazines including Vogue, Vanity Fair, Fortune, Esquire, and Harper’s Bazaar. He travels regularly and as a photographer for Conde Nast Traveler, he has been to Russia, Borneo, Bali, Thailand and throughout Europe and the Caribbean. He has received awards from Communication Arts, Graphis, American Photography and PDN.
