Artist Message
My work focuses on creating images with a curious and whimsical feel. By juxtaposing and layering image and context digitally and by hand, I design surreal characters and landscapes. I get my ideas through observation, research and experimentation with materials and techniques. A lot of my work evolves around my fascination with the relationship between man and machine. I often customize existing objects by re-appropriating them with mechanical and nostalgic elements. My influences reach back to my childhood, antique novelties, inventions, old advertisement posters and Russian Constructivists like Rodchenko and El Lissitzky. As my work consists of a combination of hand-rendered and collaged elements, I am a keen collector of textures, old books, prints, photographs and ephemera. |
