Artist Message

 

Matthew Cave is an award-winning designer + illustrator. Cave has been practicing the art of attractive graphic design since 1994 after he was inspired by album cover art by Vaughan Oliver for Pixies while working at a record store in high school. Cave's work is influenced by post-punk music, Atari 2600, v23 work for 4ad records, bioluminescence + invisible things. Cave began creating for the music industry by designing flyers for post-punk bands in Fort Lauderdale where he went to art school.

Cave is creating pixel art portraits of his favorite rock stars including Thom Yorke, Robert Smith, Dave Gahan, Ian Curtis, Kurt Cobain, Black Francis, Johnny Cash + Beck. Cave is reimagining album art in his signature style. Matthew's personal art projects also include sound reactive light art and sound reactive music video experiments in Adobe After Effects and he has also created and sold sound reactive light art with electroluminescent wire and sound reactive drivers.
