While touring around Santa Barbara with friends, photographer Kevin Steele snapped this beautiful, dramatic image with his iPhone. The clouds, according to Kevin, are called pyrocumulus, and though they are a result from a forest fire in the backcountry, they are not built up from smoke, but rather from the intense heat created in the air (similar to what happens with volcanoes).
