Orvidas Adds American Lumberjack Legend To Personal Series

Jan 10, 2017

Paul Bunyan, a giant lumberjack from American folklore, is the next entry into illustrator Ken Orvidas’ on-going art series, “Myths, Fables and Fantastical Tales”.

Bunyan was, according to North American tall tales, an enormous man capable of accomplishing superhuman labors, and in imagery he is often accompanied by his trusted companion, Babe the Blue Ox (as shown in Orvidas’ illustration). Though the Character of Paul Bunyan originates from the oral tradition of North American loggers, he wasn’t brought into the “main-stream” until 1916, when he became the subject of a pamphlet promoting the Red River Lumber Company.
