Chris Sickles Depicts “Attendees From Hell”

Feb 16, 2017

When Meetings & Conventions Magazine asked Chris Sickles to create a few illustrations for their article titled “Attendees From Hell”, it didn’t take very long to decide who to use as the feature’s front-figure: Beelzebub himself! But producing a convincing image of Satan is not always as easy as it sounds. Sure, Chris is a master at creating characters, but the decision to put fire behind one proved to be an entirely different challenge. Afraid that any real flames might destroy the puppet (or the entire studio, for that matter), Chris knew that he had to come up with another solution. After some experimenting, he finally found a way of using cutout gels with illumination to create an effect, similar to (and much safer than) the real thing.

In addition to his devious looking front figure, Chris also got to depict a few other “Hellish” attendees. The sketches and finished work below include an overly demanding and obnoxious vegan lady, portrayed as part-human, part-broccoli, and a drunken lady that, reminiscent to a turtle on its back, had fallen over and violently refused any offers of help getting up.

More info about the amusing “Attendees From Hell” project can be found on Chris’s blog in the link below.
