If anyone’s got a handle on acrylic color use, it’s Texas-based fine artist Ray-Mel Cornelius. His recent work, titled “Cactus Flower with Haiku” (48 by 48 inches) is a great example of how proper use of background color — in this case, Cornelius’s signature blue — can make a subject “pop”. As its title suggests, this latest piece highlights the yellow cactus flower, a fragile beauty born from a harsh desert environment.
