Sep 28, 2020

Dan Bejar’s illustrations “Sundown” and “Research” were created for a recent article in Oprah Magazine (“O”) about how black Americans are twice as likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease compared to white Americans. “Sundown” depicts the difficult story of a woman caring for her mother and grandmother, both of whom are suffering from Alzheimer’s. Being known as the “Sundown Syndrome”, symptoms such as restlessness and confusion is said to increase at sunset.

“This assignment hit close to home as my family has also cared for and lost a family member to Alzheimer’s disease”, said Dan. He also thanked his Art Director Gillian MacLeod for helping him with the wonderful designs.
