Julia Kerschbaumer's Advent Calendar is a big hit!

Dec 10, 2021

The Advent Calendar is a very popular tradition worldwide, but especially in German-speaking countries. The calendar has 24 small windows with a picture and/or sweets for each day from December 1 leading up to Christmas Eve on December 24.

"There are Advent calendars of all shapes, colors, and brands on the market, but the most beautiful are the ones made by parents themselves. When I was a kid, my mom made a beautiful advent calendar for my sister and me. It was a ring with 24 hanging bags made of felt, on each bag was a Christmas motif, also made of felt. This calendar accompanied us our whole childhood and still means a lot to me", comments artist Julia Kerschbaumer.

Julia carries on the tradition. This year she found an old wooden showcase that luckily had exactly 24 chambers - "so I thought I might as well make an Advent calendar for my kids, hoping they'd love it all their childhoods, too".
