22-year-old Mahsa Amini, was arrested in Tehran, Iran for 'improperly' wearing her hijab. The police took her into custody and she was placed in a detention center where she was beaten into a coma and died three days later on September 16th, 2022. Protests have spread internationally.
Illustrator Paul Garland was deeply upset by her death and created a tribute poster titled, "Freedom". Through Masha's tears and mask, Garland gives Mahsa a voice.
