November 21, 1854, Giacomo Paolo the Baptist of the Church was born in Pegli, "nomen omen" (the name speaks for itself) for the future Pope Benedict XV, 258th Pope of the Catholic Church from 1914 until his death. He was a firm opponent of the First World War, which he called a "useless massacre".
Illustrator Ivan Canu's portrait of Pope Benedict XV is part of "Italy in the First World War in 50 portraits" published by Centauria Libri".
