John Eder's New Body of Work - Kids!

Mar 22, 2010

Photographer, John Eder created this image for Federal Workers Credit Union, on the concept of educating kids on money, how to save and budget their dough, something that is rarely, if ever, touched on in kids' education. It's a timely concept, considering the economy!

"I held a casting and got this kid for a couple reasons - one, he was totally adorable and mischievous looking, he had a timeless appearance - the direction was to make this look like he could be a kid from any period, from now back through the 50s, and was old enough to take direction well. He was shot against a green screen. Then I had to get the candy store background, which was surprisingly difficult. The background is from a candy store in a mall, and their actual layout was copyrighted, it was a corporate chain of candy stores. Who knew? Anyway, I worked my way up the chain of command, and got to a VP in charge of marketing. They gave me permission to shoot the background plate in one of their stores, with the caveat that I completely change the layout, remove all logos, and shift things around so it was basically unrecognizable as their store. I also had to mash it up a little to make the background completely full of candy items, the store layout was much more spaced out in between candy dispensers. It ran as posters in the Credit Union branches, as well as included in mailers they put in with their bank statements. This picture will make your teeth hurt." says Eder.
