Barbara Kosoff creates another mixed-media illustration for the Los Angeles Times Book Review!

Aug 31, 2010

Barbara's illustration appeared in the Sunday, August 29th Calendar Section for Book Review. The piece was for a review of Andrea Gillies memoir, "Keeper: One House, Three Generations, and a Journey into Alzheimer's."

The illustration was inspired by the relationship between the author and her mother-in-law, Nancy who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. Gillies documents her observations thru diary entries and accounts of conversations with Nancy that track her slow unravelling and decline. The journey is marked by frustration, isolation, exhaustion, and unexpected black comedy... to read the article, click on the link below. Barbara enjoyed the entire process of coming up with several ideas and then creating a thought-provoking illustration of dark whimsy.

Barbara will also have a new piece of work in a group show entitled, Santa Monica: The Art of Summer that opens on Saturday, Sept 4th (6 -10 pm) at the Orange County Center for Contemporary Art (OCCCA) in Santa Ana, California.
