Saverio Truglia: Not Just A Photographer

Jun 09, 2003

In addition to being a commercial photographer, Saverio Truglia is company member of, Collaboraction, an innovative, multi-media theater group in Chicago where he is a media production coordinator. He collaborated with Leo Burnett art director, Mark McGinnis, to create the program of their summer play, Apocalyptic Butterflies by Wendy McLeod.

The 15 images used the program are derived directly from interpreting the script and photographing what is never actually seen by the viewer with unapologetic compositions, and flat lighting. The program will be color on tabloid size newsprint in keeping with the plays themes. Before the lights go down, viewers will be curious about the seemingly disconnected imagery of a car battery, close up of crooked teeth, an arm, and a can of Comet masquerading as a shower drain. As the play progresses, the pictures will reveal themselves by falling into context one at a time. The program will be a keeper, finding a place in peoples book shelves and keeping viewers thinking about the play and Collaboraction long after house lights come back up.

Apocalyptic Butterflies, written by Wendy McLeod and directed by Collaboraction's founder, Kimberly Senior runs from June 17-July 20 at Chicago Dramatist's Theater at 1105 W. Chicago Ave. Tickets are available at 312.226.9633.
