Jing Jing On Finding Her “Authentic Voice”

Is your work authentic and true to your innermost essence? Is it really “you”, or is it made through something else? Internationally renowned illustrator Jing Jing recently talked about this on her blog; what it means to find your “true” voice in what you do, whether that be in illustrating, writing books, or in anything else. To accompany her reasoning, Jing Jing also posted an illustration she made of a singing bird, fitting well into the notion of having an “authentic voice”. Her own explanation is as follows:

“Mike and I have been busy finishing up the details of new books. It's a process where you think you're finished and then realize there's so much you can do to make it stronger. Every book is a chance to explore and find our Authentic Voice. What makes this so challenging? Maybe because as we learn and grow, what we perceive as "true", evolves. I'm really excited my newest images which won't come out until 2016 (TBA). I think the images may be the closest I've ever gotten to my "truth". But I'm sure as I begin work on the next one, I will become excited about new "truths". Ahh, the creative life, forever wandering and seeking...”
