Artist Message
In 2010 Richard Solomon celebrated his 29th anniversary as an artists' representative. His group of 20 artists have worked for a variety of clients producing over 8,000 assignments. His artists have won 6 Hamilton King Awards, 2 Greenwich Workshop Awards and have collectively received over 80 Gold and Silver Medals from the Society of Illustrators. Five artists have been profiled in Walt Reed's The Illustrator in America: 1860-2000, a comprehensive guide to innovators of American Illustration. Highlights: Numerous book covers for Random House, Simon and Schuster, Barnes & Noble, Houghton Mifflin, Random House, and St. Martin's Press. Over 30 picture books published, including those written by Jerry Seinfeld, John Lithgow, and Madonna. Movie posters for Paramount and Disney. Public art for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority of New York City - DeKalb Avenue Station. Painting expeditions for National Geographic Magazine, and various postal stamps for the US Postal Service. Editorial clients include TIME, Newsweek, The Atlantic, Business Week, Esquire, Mad Magazine, Discover, Sports Illustrated, Reader's Digest, Road & Track, The New York Times, The Boston Globe, The Los Angeles Times, and The Washington Post. Rounding out the commissions are several permanent, fabricated murals and installations for the Federal Reserve, Barnes & Noble, The US Air Force Museum, The Cowboy Hall of Fame, The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, Cincinnati Playhouse, The United Nations, The Cincinnati Playhouse, Pho Ha Restaurants, Andersen Windows, The UK Royal College of Surgeons, and the Mall of Georgia. The artists have also created corporate identities Anheuser-Busch, Eddie Bauer, Galileo Research, and Welles Fargo, among others. Richard, and many of his illustrators devote time to teaching or lecturing at universities and schools across the country. The artists exhibit frequently in galleries and museums around the world. Their work is housed in numerous permanent collections including TIME-LIFE, Ralph Lauren, Oscar de la Renta, Rolling Stone, The Franklin Mint, Hallmark, Motown Records, and the Cincinnati Art Museum. Additional accolades include two Addy Awards, from the Advertising Federation of America, multiple awards from the Society of Illustrators Los Angeles, Houston, The Art Directors Club, and the Societies of Publication and Newspaper Design. In addition are features and awards from Communication Arts, American Artist, Step-by-Step, Spectrum Annual, and Graphis Magazines. |
