Sherman Talks “Less Is More” And Its Appliance To Photography

Nov 04, 2016

“Personally I think that the play of light and shadow on a subjects face can really bring out their true personalities. “ -Stephen Sherman

Photographer Stephen Sherman has stated that he’s a great believer in the old term “less is more”. In a recent blog post, he discussed how the principle is oftentimes true to photography and how it helps to capture the intimacy and personal connection needed for creating captivating portraits. Stephen Says, “I always start with a single light source and add as-needed from there. Sometimes, that single light source is the sun or maybe a strong existing light source”. The challenge, ha says, is to find what works best in any given situation, since there are often many different light sources to choose from. To top of the article, Stephen also provided a few examples of previous portraits that have all been produces with only a single source of light.
