Barczyk Sends a Powerful Message to the Women of the World

Mar 01, 2017

Hanna Barczyk’s latest illustration for the Boston Globe is an empowering image for women of all colors, addressing worldwide commonalities and the right to have a voice; something that Elizabeth Warren was temporarily robbed off when she was silenced on the floor of the Senate a few weeks back. The fact that Warren, a woman with the rights to both vote and hold office, was hushed by Senator Jeff Sessions before she could end reading the words of Loretta Scott King, didn’t sit well with a lot of people, and was the ultimate spark for what would become the Boston Globe article that accompanies Barczyk’s powerful image.

The article, which is co-written by seven different women (Susan Quinn, Joyce Antler, Megan Marshall, Frances Malino, Lois Rudnick, Judith Tick and Roberta Wollons), brings up the incident with Warren and compares it with Angelina Grimke’s historic 1838 speech at the podium of the Massachusetts Legislature, along with concerns about the newly inaugurated Trump-administration. It can be found in its entirety in the link below.
