Scott Lowden's New Series from The Frazier Center

Jul 23, 2015

The Frazier Center in Atlanta is a community where people of both ability and disability meet to socialize and learn more about each other’s joys and challenges in life. Although professional photographer Scott Lowden had been familiar with the community for many years, it wasn’t until he was scouting for an advertising shoot nearby that he suddenly got close enough to understand the importance of what the people at the Frazier Center were doing and their ultimate contribution to society. Scott says:

“I was sincerely touched when meeting the wonderful people for whom they provide opportunities. This is not a place where they are hidden or sheltered. Instead, it’s a space for adults with a variety of abilities to gather, to learn and to flourish, ultimately striving for the same thing as all of us: the feeling of being integrated, that of belonging to the broader community.”

As this year marks the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disability Act, Scott wanted to shoot 25 individual portraits of the center’s participants within the environments where they are volunteering or working. But as Scott and his crew was spending several days working with the center’s participants, realizing what kind of wonderful and fascinating individuals they are, he decided to also shoot a few videos in addition to the portraits.

Be sure to follow the links below to view the entire portrait series, as well as the captivating videos that were shot during the few days that Scott spent with the center’s participants (the behind the scenes-video is especially heartwarming).
