Matthew Bowie Elaborates On His New “Active Lifestyle” Photo Series

Aug 12, 2015

Not too long ago, Altpick featured a few photos by professional photographer Matthew Bowie from one of his latest projects: an image library of people with active lifestyles. The origin of the project, which thus far contains a number of beautiful images of athletes doing what they do best, was recently explained more thoroughly on Matthew’s blog; after having presented his earlier work to different creatives at the NYC Foto Works portfolio review in June, many seemed to share the view that Matthew’s style of photography is natural, expressive, and never feels staged. This was later taken into consideration when Matthew decided to come up with his next promotional work. Asking the same things that a creative director would have asked, he soon ended up with four essential questions:

“Can I create this work in a reasonable amount of time, 2-3 months?
Can I create this body of work on a limited or no budget?
Will this work appeal to creatives and a real world client?
Can I convince a producer, assistants and models to contribute to the project?”

It was these questions that eventually led Matthew to come up with the idea of creating a photo library of people living an “active lifestyle”, which would include a variety of athletes such as a skater (as featured in our previous news-item on Matthew), a basketball player, a runner and more.

The images below are some of the most recent ones in the series. According to Matthew, the library will be completed once it contains 50 final images. Be sure to follow him on social media and on his blog (links below) to see the progress and completion of this wonderful project.
