Barraclough Photographs Sculptor Tom Duncan In Westbeth Residency

Apr 25, 2024

One of the more obvious benefits of working as a professional photographer has got to be the variety of interesting people who will inevitably find their way to the front of your lens. Tom Duncan is undoubtedly one of those people. Altpick member, Keith Barraclough, recently had a chance to photograph the sculptor in his home at the Westbeth Artist Housing in Manhattan, where he shared stories related to the antiques, collectibles, and flea market objects that have been found and stored over the years. A lot of Tom’s work, according to Keith, is based on World War II, which was a part of his early childhood in Scotland before emigrating to the US in the late 1940’s. He was one of the first tenants at Westbeth, which was founded in 1970 (a time when the freight trains were still running on the High Line outside).

Just as Tom Duncan collects and preserves history, so too does Keith with these wonderful photographs and we’re happy we get to experience all of it!
