Gastaldi Depicts Peer-Review Gender-Bias

Mar 23, 2023

The peer-review crisis in academic publishing has worsened, according to The Chronicle of Higher Education. This is supposedly in part caused by a system that discourages women scholars and rather favors males. The data, which comes from a new study of nearly 50 journals in the British Medical Journals Publishing Group, shows that women account for less than one in three peer reviewers (scholars who are experts in their field) and that the proportion of females had grown by only 2.9 percentage points from the year 2009 to 2020. Federico Gastaldi depicts this statistic magnificently (as usual) with this latest illustration!
