Powers Shares New Artwork From Current Exhibition

Aug 22, 2023

This striking image is one of Lisa Powers’ latest pieces. The portrait is titled “The Silent Woman” and is part of her solo exhibition, “Photographic Illusions”, which is up from now until mid-September at Peter Dunbar Gallery, 151 Colombo St, Christchurch.

Lisa explains the background to her artwork as such: “During Imperial China, women’s silence was enforced and women simply accepted it. This was paradoxical since women were so prevalent in paintings and theatre arts. A woman could speak eloquently, sing, and play music yet her individuality was stripped away. Women lived in a state of vulnerability and silence.”

Signed, limited edition Giclée prints of this wonderful artwork (and others) can be found for purchase at the Peter Dunbar Gallery or by order through e-mail: peter@peterdunbar.co.nz
