For those unfamiliar with #FreeBritney, the hashtag has been trending due to the most recent news (and documentary) about legal disputes surrounding Britney Spears’s business and personal affairs. Ever since her much-publicized mental health crisis 12 years ago, the pop singer’s estate and fortune have been in the hands of her father, Jamie Spears, in an arrangement known as a “conservatorship”. Hence, long-time Britney fans have gathered under the banner “FreeBritney” in an effort to back the singer’s legal fights and ultimately help to get her life back.
On social media, many artists have done what they can to show their support, including Altpick member Kate Turning who recently shared a few of her own photographs of the pop-icon. Her caption: “Everyone deserves to be free.”
