Illustrator Benedetta Vialli has said that whenever she visits a city for the first time, she usually makes an effort to also visit the town’s cemetery. Below is an excellent new illustration she made for the cover of The Genoeser based on the Cimitero monumental di Staglieno. This extensive cemetery is found on a hillside in the district of Staglieno in Genoa, Italy, and is (as Benedetta puts it) somewhat of “a city within a city”. “With its 30 hectares it is not even the largest cemetery in Italy”, says Benedetta, “but it is certainly the most labyrinthine and fascinating!”
