Self Promotion Series featured in 3x3 Magazine. I picked a good subject for a truly wintery Christmas night of 2022 along the shores of Lake Michigan. Only a random rabbit in its full winter coat might be out in the bitter cold of a Michigan Jack Pine forest on a night like this.

This design for Wild Carrot came together very fast-half the time of the others. Queen Anne's Lace invasive introduced as a cultivar in the 1880s. All the plants I am selecting were originally immigrants from Europe as are most of us.

Silent Night Winter Beaver Pond

Self Promotion Series featured in 3x3 Magazine. Each year since 2018 I have created a work of art on Christmas Eve featuring a native animal in the silence of a winter night. One of my favorite things to do is to take a walk in the woods on Christmas Eve, especially on a starry night. This year's design shows a beaver munching on an aspen branch in a forest pond. This year I am planning on doing a series of illustrations with the last appearing on Christmas Eve.

CHICORY

From my botanical series. Also known as Cornflower. I don't see as many of these as I did when I was a kid, but Chicory has been hybridized into a number of deep blue colored varieties for the flower garden. It is related to Radicchio. I remember it growing in the hard clay soil behind the house where I grew up.

St. John's Wort

Hypericum is a common inhabitant of local fields and meadows this hardy plant blooms in midsummer. I thought this plant was Potentia for many years, but it is actually Hypericum or St. John's Wort. It is a controversial a plant for the supplements industry.

An already very abstract landscape, the Badlands lent themselves to the geometric design of a quilt inspired pattern. Of course I had to include a buffalo.
